Couples & Family Therapy
Couples Therapy
People seek couple’s and/or family therapy when they are struggling with challenges in close and intimate relationships. These challenges may include ongoing conflict, communication breakdown, infidelity, difficult family dynamics, de-coupling, sex/sexuality-related stressors, or any issue that is difficult to resolve without assistance. Everyone comes to therapy with their own personality traits, life context, and history, and these factors determine how we relate to others. The goal in this therapy is the development of safe, healthy, and meaningful connection, taking into consideration where all parties come from. Needs are tailored to suit the couple or family participating in the process.
Family Therapy for Children, Youth and Caregivers
Children and youth live within a family and families can be complex – caregiver support, empowerment and guidance is important to the well-being of the child and the family unit. We believe in a Multisystemic Family Therapy modality that supports the entire family, their networks and their children. Working with children, youth and their families/support networks to discover their needs and build on their strengths is essential to growth and healing.
This approach pairs intensive support and partnership between the therapist and family with support to the family in working with other collaterals and structured environments such as school and community. Family specific strategies and accommodations in the home and collaboration, education and advocacy at the school and community level work towards enabling families to create more positive interactions, both within the family and the surrounding social context, encouraging new family coping strategies and better behavioural management.
